Taylor Swift and Conor Kennedy Split – Did Ellen DeGeneres Make Her Realize How One-Dimensional She Seems?

When I first started writing about Taylor Swift, I remember everyone sang her praises. People were highly complimentary of the rising country star. Nowadays it isn't the same. People are critical and no longer enamored. Why? Because of how Taylor handles her relationships with men.
Sure, she’s wealthy. Her music is appealing. But, the public mostly identifies her as a woman who rushes into relationships only to later pen songs about heartache. The tune is all too familiar and over-played.

Additionally, two other things stood out today. The obvious is the news about how Taylor and Conor Kennedy broke up. Like all celebrity couples who split, her rep said it was scheduling issues. Other sources said, though, Conor was overwhelmed at how fast it was all moving.

Given Taylor was willing to fly Conor to see her, I find it difficult to believe scheduling was the problem. I think it was all of the antiquing they did while Conor was trying to study and enjoy his first year in college. Taylor was coming on so strong with the Kennedy’s that I see Conor being freaked out more so than an issue with coordinating calendars.

Taylor went on Ellen DeGeneres' show today to promote her new album. Ellen put up slides of Taylor ’s ex’s so they could discern who “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” is about. When asked to give hints about who it is, Taylor shouted, “But I don’t want to! I don’t want to! They’ll send angry emails and I don’t want to get them.”

As the slideshow continued, she screamed, “Stop it, stop it, stop! This makes me feel so bad about myself. Every time I come here you put a different dude up on the screen. It just makes me question what I stand for as a human being.”

Boom.

I know Ellen didn’t mean to upset Taylor. Ellen doesn’t have a mean bone in her body. Yet, I’m glad she did the ex-boyfriend slide show because it made Taylor introspective. I think she's beginning to see what we do and that is how one-dimensional she seems. Taylor obviously has a reputation for singing about the sadness men have caused her. In fact, it's to such a degree that people tease her about it on their shows. Taylor shouted on Ellen, but what else does she give people to discuss?

The same is true for women who only want to talk about their relationships. Even a best friend might find her patience growing thin and is clawing at the walls to talk about something else. The problem with having a one-dimensional friend is that you don’t want to hurt her feelings, yet you cringe when the phone rings. So, you avoid her all together.

In my last post about Taylor, I repeated her words about how she refuses to follow any rules in love. As an alternative, I suggested she try using the word “boundaries” to see if that's more palatable. Maybe her time has come to do some soul searching and figure out her identity outside of men.

Until next time…
