Rihanna Says She Hasn’t Been on a Date in Two Years – Is This Why She’s Revisiting Relationship with Chris Brown?

You did what was best and left the loser guy you were dating. Everyone said that you could do better. Because you have self-esteem, you believed them. But, it’s a good deal of time later – much later than maybe you care to admit – and the next best thing hasn’t come along. All the while Mr. No-Good-Ex still contacts you. You’re lonely and start to cave to his no good calls and texts.

And you wouldn’t be the only woman to fall for this. In the November issue of Vogue, Rihanna admitted that she has not been on a date in two years. She said no movies, no dinner, nothing. She explained that she’d love to go on a date where she can laugh with a man. "No one asks," she claims. "Trust me on that. I'm waiting for the man who's ballsy enough to deal with me. I'm going to wait, though. You always find the wrong shit when you go looking."

There are three points I want to make on this one.

First, I know women who tell me that they will go jogging, hiking, canoeing, or something otherwise outdoorsy with men. These aren't dates. Rihanna hit the nail on the head when she described a date as dinner and a movie. More poignantly, she said that no one asks. In other words, she knows that it’s best when the man initiates the date. Even though she’s been flying solo for the past two years, it doesn't sound as if she's pursuing men for dates.

Second, I think there’s a difference between looking and asking. Going out can be perceived as looking. But, it’s when a woman asks a man out that she’ll have problems down the road. In the meantime, though, I’ve heard Rihanna she eats alone at restaurants. She should keep doing this.

Some might think that there’s a “loser stigma” attached to being seen alone. Especially if you’re Rihanna. This doesn’t matter. She is only looking for one man. That one man will be thrilled at the serendipity of finding such an amazing woman. 

Of course, there might be jerks who say nasty things about her eating alone. We don’t care about them. If anything, we appreciate them because they’ve weeded themselves out as future boyfriends or husbands. All without having to waste any time.

Finally, Rihanna revisiting her romance with Chris Brown makes sense given she hasn’t dated anyone for two years. I’m sure the men she meets don’t make her heart thump like Chris does. However, this doesn’t mean you go back to an ex – even if he wasn’t abusive. It’s like looking into the past which is bad luck for the present. Loneliness can be tough. But, it’s still no excuse to go backward.

Rihanna should continue looking to the future. Even if he never lays a finger on her again, I maintain she can do much better than Chris. Having faith in what tomorrow brings makes for a stronger person than one who lives in the past. Just because someone better didn't come along doesn't make your ex Mr. Right.
