For those who are unaware, Nicole shared her personal story about her 8-year battle with bulimia. In her VHI Behind the Music special, Nicole admitted that bulimia was her addiction during the time she was the lead singer for Pussycat Dolls. Even more moving was how she felt embarrassed about all of it.
How this ties into Lewis is that when Nicole told him what she was going through, he gave her the courage to overcome her sickness. “He made me feel beautiful for who I am and not what pant size I’m wearing. That helped a lot. A little light came on in the back of my head and that’s when I started to try and turn this around. I said, ‘Wow, I’ve got to learn to accept myself and my body.’ I started to embrace myself as a woman and my curves.”
What Nicole said about Lewis was very sweet. It’s true that when a man loves you, he doesn’t pay anywhere near the attention to your perceived flaws as you do. However, when he’s not interested in you, nothing you do is good enough. I was happy to hear that Lewis was such a positive influence on Nicole.
Someone who commented thought the article sounded ridiculous, saying that Nicole, “[T]alks like she used to be rail thin. Then he came along and suddenly she stopped watching her diet, working out, and gained weight like Christina Aguilera. I don't see that her body has changed. Sure it was easy for him not to care about her pant size, she is tiny. I have my doubts he would've taken her on a single date if she was a size 14. Just my guess.”

Once she told Lewis, though, he was obviously very concerned and most likely checked in on her frequently. In a sense, he held her accountable. I’m sure Nicole wanted to look him in the eye and say she was doing better and from there, her own will-power came into play.
Second, I do agree that were she a size 14 that maybe Lewis wouldn’t have been as interested. But, there’s a difference between a woman letting herself go versus almost killing herself to stay thin. Lewis wanted Nicole to find that happy medium because he could see her self-acceptance need a gentle nudge.
The only other thing I want to mention on this one is that I wonder if part of the reason Nicole’s been hanging out with Lewis as long as she has without a ring is because maybe she feels like he saved her life. When couples go through something this big, it can be hard to part ways for any reason. I’m sure Nicole can stand on her own two feet without him, but she might feel indebted.
I hope this isn’t the case. Just because Lewis helped her out doesn’t mean she’s beholden to him. It certainly isn’t an excuse for him to procrastinate on proposing – no matter how young he is.
