Katy Perry Playing Hard-to-Get with John Mayer – Is It Ever Too Late to Add Mystery to a Woman’s Game?

I read Katy Perry’s been playing hard-to-get with John Mayer. She has no interest in being another one of his conquests and is convinced she can change him. Katy’s realizing that to keep John, she must become his “It Girl.” Her idea of being elusive also entails letting John know that she’s free to see other people. Once Katy told him this, he pursued her more!

In the August 16^th Celebrity Romance Roundup, I said that Katy missed the "hard-to-get window" with John. She was seeing him more than she should, spending the night, and being way too available. As a result, he dumped her. Then she supposedly texted him and said to take her back because she was lonely. So, it all started up again. She went to Vegas after he was already there, hit up a strip club with him, and is photographed with him so frequently you can tell it’s not just for date night.

But, will playing hard-to-get work for Katy in the long haul? After all, John already called it quits in September. I firmly believe that once a man tells you he can live without you that it’s over – even if he’s still willing to sleep with you. See, playing hard-to-get with a man works best when done from the moment you meet. It’s harder to go back when patterns have been set.

With that said, it’s never too late to add some mystery to your game with a man. Best case scenario is he’ll come around and pursue you. At worst, you’ll learn he didn’t have to have you and the distance will help you get over him.

I wasn’t clear, though, on whether Katy told John out of the blue that she’s open to see other people. Maybe he asked for a relationship and she turned him down. Yet, that doesn’t seem likely given he broke it off. Because of this, I speculate she said this to make him think she's seeing other men.

Telling a man this isn’t a good idea. It should come from a woman’s actions and not an in-your-face declaration that she's flying solo. Even if a man says it, don’t be so quick to share what’s up with you. A huge part of keeping your mystery occurs even when he’s saying things you don’t want to hear.   

What’s more important is that Katy not be so available for dates and cuts back on the amount of time she spends with John. Especially no going out of her way to make special trips to see him like she did in Vegas. I’d also never, ever, go to a strip club with John. I’m not a big fan of him going either, but really don’t want her to go. I don’t care what her BFF Rihanna does.

In sum, it won’t hurt Katy in the slightest to start playing hard-to-get. Better late than never. Had John not dumped her already, I’d be more excited that she’s doing this. Now, we’ll just have to wait and see if her plan works.
