I was disappointed to read today that Ellie Goulding and Skillrex split after a year of dating. There was no explanation about what went wrong. All we were told is the stock response which is
they couldn’t make their schedules work.

For readers who have followed my blog for some time, you might
remember how I was excited about Ellie and Skillrex dating because he
initiated the relationship. He emailed her and said he
loved her work. He was also outspoken in the press about how much he loved her.
This
brings me to my point. Women frequently ask how I can say the
key to making a relationship last is having the man pursue you knowing there are couples who break-up even though the man died to have her. The
answer is simple: Because the woman no longer wanted the relationship.
The
benefit of playing hard-to-get with a man is that the woman has
the right of refusal. The woman has the option
to date, have a relationship, or marry a
man. By not chasing him, she has more control
in the relationship which places her on equal footing.
The
bottom line is that playing hard-to-get ensures the man will pursue
you. If he’s chasing you down for dates and a relationship, you can rest
easy that he’s not interested in anyone else. What I can’t promise,
though, is that you’ll always feel the same.
With Ellie, I think -- sadly -- she no longer wanted to date
Skillrex. It was lovely that he pursued her and was so proud to have her
as his girlfriend. But, it didn’t seem she felt the same.
Some
of you might think that I shouldn’t pre-judge the situation and say for
certain that Ellie left him. Yet, I watched their relationship. I didn't see any indication that she pursued Skillrex. Whenever I read stories
about them, I never winced and thought, “oh, Ellie shouldn’t have done
that.” I’m sure we’ll find out later why they split. My initial
reaction, though, is she left him.
If
this is true, I hope Ellie’s sure about her decision. I’d hate to think
she let their relationship go because she was frustrated with the
distance. Men like Skillrex are hard to find. True, there are a lot of
men out there. But, a man who truly adores and admires you doesn’t come
along every day.
