I was cruising the internet today and came across an article that I wanted to share. Cameron Diaz
has turned 40 and is featured in the October issue of EsquireUK. When
asked about what it was like to get older, she responded with some
pretty positive words.
She
said, “Getting older is the best part of my life. I know more than I’ve
ever known. I have gratitude. I know myself better. I feel more capable
than ever. As far as the physicality of it – I feel better at 40 than I
did at 25.”
Those
who doubt her feel good high might think, “That’s what she says. But,
is that really how she feels?” Who knows? Maybe Cameron privately breaks
her mirrors. I doubt it, though, because her attitude is very at ease.
What
made me think of this in terms of dating is how often women ask whether
it’s ok to lie about their age. The inquiry most frequently comes up
when they’re setting up an online dating profile. A woman will say
something like, “I’m 50, but everyone tells me I look 40. Can’t I just
put 40 so that way men searching for women who are 40 will find me?” I
always say no.
More
often than not, a woman who wants to lie about her age does so because she doesn’t feel good about getting older. Is this really the impression
that we want to send to men? Are we so uncomfortable about getting older
that we’re willing to lie out the gate about the years with which we’ve
been blessed?
Like
Cameron, I think women should say they feel good, no matter what age
they are. Lying about this highlights a low self-esteem and a
preoccupation with wanting to stay young. Some might consider it
vain…especially men. You might not believe age is just a number. Yet,
most of us can agree that attitude is everything.
Until next time…
Shine like Platinum!
