An article surfaced today that Katy Perry and John Mayer had a bit of a quarrel at an after-party following the VMAs. The source of the argument? John wanted to spend more time with Katy. People at the party said he was a grumpy pants and didn't want much to do with the other attendees. He was so disinterested in being there that he wanted leave, but Katy's friends wanted to hang out. Poor Katy was trapped in the middle...and John won.
There's a reason I think this story is true. Based on how they looked in their limo pictures, I'm not surprised John picked a fight. Katy's never really struck me as the type to start fights with men. Additionally, she was all smiles at the VMAs, looked lovely, and even gave a smooch to One Direction's Niall Horan. She sat next to Rihanna and was seen laughing with her. Rihanna won for video of the year which gave them cause to celebrate. All in all, it was a lovely night.
Here comes John. John who didn't attend the VMAs with Katy. True, he could've had another commitment. But, we know he wasn't sick because he showed up later. Given what's happening with the two of them recently, I swear he wanted nothing to do with walking the carpet with Katy. He doesn't want to give the world the impression they're an item.

This is why he gave her a problem about wanting spend time alone with her. When she didn't want to, he pressured her to leave. If I know anything about boys, I'll bet money he said something to her like "I want to see you, not everyone else here." If he did, marvelously played, John. Make her feel guilty for not wanting to spend time alone with you.
Some might say that John said her partying was a concern for him. Maybe. But, I don't think that was it. I think he was being a selfish, moody man. Plus, there was no mention of him just being a sweetheart and her a staggering drunk.

Back to my initial point -- as a dating coach, scenarios like this with men can be a source of confusion. I'll say, "he's not interested." Were Katy my client, she'd say, "But, Vanessa -- he just wanted to spend time alone with me." I'd respond, "But, Katy Perry, he didn't want to attend such a big event with you. Did he bother congratulating your best friend on her win or show any interest in anyone in your life? He already broke up with you over email. This isn't good. He's not interested. It'll never be want you want it to."
It will seem like a man's giving mixed signals when really the writing is on the wall. What's important is whether he's there for you at the big events (and by there I mean more than present). Let's say a man invites you over to his house to watch a movie because he misses you but won't introduce you to his family after a year -- he's probably not interested. Hang outs with a man do not a relationship or marriage make.
Tell me what you think! Do you see the scenario with Katy and John playing out like I suspect it did?
Until next time...
Shine like Platinum!
Vanessa
