Elisabetta Canalis Candid about Jealousy with Men -- What Women Can Learn from How She Handles This Emotion

While dating George Clooney, no one really knew much about what Elisabetta Canalis was really thinking. Even since their break-up, she’s typically been pretty quiet. In her latest interview with Italian magazine, Max, she opened up a bit about how she is in her relationships.

Surprisingly, Elisabetta admitted she was a jealous girlfriend – worse than a private investigator. She added that whenever she looked for something she found it. Once she did, she became jealous, aggressive, furious, and angry (all adjectives she used). Then, she'd “pack up and leave.” She now looks away when her boyfriend receives messages.

I want to first say that I don’t think it’s not a good idea for a woman to openly discuss her jealousy issues – especially with the press. It tends to make men worry about whether old habits die hard. Since Elisabetta did, though, there are a couple of lessons from which we can learn.

While she didn’t mention any fallout she experienced, it's apparent her actions didn't achieve the desired results. I surmise that her "pack up and leave" approach took a tumultuous toll on her relationships. It’s great she stepped-up to the plate and acknowledged she had a problem with jealousy.

Another subtle point I noticed is that she didn't have a magical answer about how she rid herself of jealous tendencies. Her only answer is to take it upon herself to just simply look away when he receives messages. Elisabetta is aware of what triggers her anger and exercises self-control so she doesn't give in to her emotions.

My final takeaway is that she didn't expect the man to change. She can't control a man receiving messages on his phone. Elisabetta's also aware she can't bitterly fight with and leave a man because he does. It would be impossible for her to have any functionally healthy relationship were she to.

I used to feel exactly like Elisabetta. I don't anymore because I now know that when a woman plays hard-to-get, she doesn't have to worry about a man's intentions or whether he's cheating. He's already put so much effort into the relationship so there's not much room for doubt.

There was a time once when a boyfriend of mine called me after a night out with his buddies at a bar and proceeded to tell me that a woman hit on him. But, she didn't just make a move and go away. She hung out with them for most of the night. I started wondering, "What else isn't he telling me? Did he get her number? Why is he telling me any of this?" Like Elisabetta, my mind began to whirl.

I very pleasantly ended the conversation immediately (without saying a word about this woman), called a friend and hit the roof. She said, "He's so crazy about you! Don't worry! He wants you to know that other women want him. He was probably so excited to tell you because you play so hard-to-get!" She was right. I calmed down and never said a word. Funny enough, he never mentioned the woman at the bar either.

Some might think that any man dating a jealous woman should just run. Yet, that's not an answer for the many women suffering from uncertainty about whether they're loved. I don't want a man to leave a woman because of her jealousy. If you have a problem with envy, don't be hard on yourself. Just deal with and fix it.

Tell me what you think! How do you handle your jealousy (assuming you have any)?

Until next time...
