Katy Perry and John Mayer Split – Why Moving Too Fast with Him Was Probably the Kiss of Death

And this is why we don’t move so fast with men!

The news broke that Katy Perry and John Mayer split. But, can we really equate this with a break-up given it sounds like it was just a fling? Were they boyfriend and girlfriend? Based on the report, it sure doesn’t sound that way.

While the article didn’t give a reason why their romance came to a screeching halt, it did mention that Katy’s really upset. She did her best to not take John seriously, but sounds like she couldn’t help herself. In early August, a friend said Katy feared being hurt again, but still wanted to continue seeing John because she felt connected. Looks like she got hurt anyway.

Though it doesn’t sound like they were a couple, I’m sorry Katy’s sad. Based on what we know about John being a womanizer and Katy doing too much too soon, my guess is she wanted their relationship to become more serious (or at least know there was a possibility) and John squashed it.

Here’s what I posted chronologically in August, 2012:

August 2: The picture of them getting into his car from after a date at the Chateau Marmont from the night before hit the tabloids. I offered her a bunch of advice on playing hard-to-get in order to keep John’s attention.

August 5: The next morning following their August 1^st date, Katy was spotted hopping out of John’s Ferrari. It seems that she spent the night and, more likely than not, slept with him.

August 6: They were both spotted at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills. I warned her to slow down because I knew she’d be humiliated if her relationship with John fizzled while Russell’s heated up with Isabella Brewster.

We didn’t hear much out of them until ten days later.

August 16: They were at a pool party making out in front of everyone while John supposedly shot looks down her bikini top. I told her dial back the PDA so he wouldn’t know that she was so excited to show everyone how much she liked him.

August 22: Yesterday, a story circulated that John was using Katy to get to Rihanna. I said this wasn’t true but maybe she asked him about it and he admitted it partially was. When boys see you as just a fling, they’ve even been known to ask women for 3-ways. I’m not saying this happened, but I’m surprised this story broke yesterday and then today they split.

Nothing about Katy and John seemed to say, “we’re taking it slowly.” It was all such a whirlwind with a date at Chateau Marmont, a room at the Four Seasons, pool parties, etc. She didn’t give him a chance to pursue and miss her. With a man like John, this is crucial. Because she didn’t, it was the kiss of death for their short-lived romance.

As I’ve said before, I wouldn’t want anyone to date John. But, if a woman decides to date a player, she must, must, must, play hard-to-get if she has any hope in landing him. Players always seem to hurt women more anyway. All the more reason to not be so accessible and take care of you heart.
