Evelyn Lozada Files Divorcing Chad Johnson – Love or Hate Her, Why She Made the Right Decision

Credit: Zimbio
It’s probably not a coincidence that the same day the news about Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson’s mistress hit the tabloids that his wife, Evelyn Lozada, filed for divorce. Maybe she already had it in the works anyway. After all, there was a major blow out fight, he was cut from the Miami Dolphins, and their VH1 show was cancelled. Seeing news about the mistress probably even further solidified her decision to leave.

Those who follow my blog know I frequently read the comments on articles and use them as a basis for discussion. In the case of Chad and Ev, people are saying the usual things about her that are always said about a woman with a wealthy man: She’s a gold digger. With Ev, there’s a bit more to the story.

What I’m most often seeing is, “She knew he was a cheater when she married him. She head-butt him. Not surprised they’re divorcing. Why’d they marry to begin with?” Same ole’, same ole – ok wait, maybe not the head-butting part. That one is definitely new.

For the sake of argument, let’s say everything about Ev is true: She’s a gold digger who knew Chad was a cheater and also head-butt him in an Incredible Hulk fit of anger. My remaining question is does it mean she should spend the rest of her life in a marriage that will only worsen? Given it became violent so quickly – no matter who started it – these situations have a tendency to escalate until someone is severely hurt or killed.

The way I see it, Ev and Chad ’s character and personality flaws created a highly volatile situation. Even if they both made a mistake in marrying, it’s better to divorce than continue hurting each other. Whether she’s leaving to take a stand against domestic violence or because the money’s gone – or both – it’s best to walk now than risk having children who might grow up in an abusive environment.

Some might object and say, “But, Vanessa, it’s not that we expect her to stay. Why marry him in the first place?” I have no idea. I can’t address her motives. The heart wants what it wants. Even if the heart has greed in it.

My guess is that Ev learned a valuable lesson. If she knows a man’s a cheater, next time around she won’t marry him. If she’s a gold digger, next time she’ll hold out for true love. And, if she really head-butt Chad , next time she’ll know that abuse and getting an oww-ie on her forehead leads to her husband losing his job.

As for the here and now, though, I agree with her decision to leave. I wish them the best of luck. Hopefully, Chad will turn his career around and they’ll find love that makes them happy.

Tell me what you think! Should Evelyn have stayed with Chad?

Until next time…
