Is Casper Smart Planning to Propose to Jennifer Lopez? How Much Emphasis Should a Woman Place on a Ring?

One year ago Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony Anthony announced their divorce. Not too long after that stories and pictures surfaced with Jennifer and her backup dancer, Casper Smart. It doesn't seem their relationship is waning; if anything, reports are it's stronger than ever.

Supposedly, Casper, 25, wants to propose to Jennifer, 42. His friends and family love her, and he's ready to take the next step. Now comes the ring. But, Casper's struggling to save enough money from his dancer checks to buy a "JLo suitable" quality ring. 

One aspect I haven't really covered is how much emphasis a woman should place on the ring. There's no clear cut answer to this. It depends on a man's financial situation.

Say he's wealthy and lives extravagantly, but gives you a cheap ring. That's a bad sign. If he's wealthy, but frugal, it's not the worst if he doesn't spend a lot. However, the more, the better. This isn't about gold-digging. Truthfully, though, there is a correlation between how much a man loves and spends.

If the man isn't wealthy, be realistic about the ring. Again, the more money he scrapes together the better. Once you get the ring, don't take it to a jeweler to have a bigger diamond added or make other changes. The Rules say be (act) happy with whatever he gives you.

One reason Ellen and Sherrie recommend doing this is because it sets the tone for how you'll receive his gifts when you're married. If you aren't happy with the ring and express as much, he'll think you'll return the gifts he buys.

How you receive the ring is of great importance. Imagine it from his perspective. He spent time selecting it, planning a proposal, and hoping (if you're Rules) you'd say yes. Letting him know you want to change it tells him what he's done isn't good enough. Is that the impression you want to send to the man you love?

As for Jennifer and Casper, even if you think it's moving too fast or that she shouldn't marry someone so much younger, the topic at hand is how she should receive the ring. Hopefully, she stays out of it unless he asks her opinion and won't buy her own. If she doesn't she'll risk emasculating him.
