In the Celeb Romance Roundup for July 11, I mentioned the
rumors about how Antonio Banderas cheated on his wife Melanie
Griffith. Supposedly, Antonio was seen with another blonde in Cancun.
Since then, two separate pictures of Melanie without her wedding ring – this one and this one – have surfaced.
At
first, I dismissed Antonio’s cheating as “just the tabloids.” For
Melanie, I thought “no big deal, some women don’t like wearing rings.”
But, one report said her wedding ring lives on that finger. It was then I wondered if there was truth to the stories.
Another report came out today that Antonio is doing his best to keep
their marriage of fifteen years from tanking. He’s bought Melanie flowers, extravagant gifts, and been sweet talking her on the phone – the usual things a man does when in trouble with a woman. What’s not
good, though, is Melanie’s caving instead of packing her bags.

The Rules for Marriage
has a zero tolerance policy for a husband who cheats on his wife. If it
happens once, it’s over. Ellen and Sherrie explain that there’s no
going back once the bond of trust is broken.
I’ve
read comments from people who say “Melanie's paying for her own cheating” and “this isn’t the first time Antonio’s cheated on her.”
For the first point, sure, maybe karma’s coming around to bite her in
the rear. It doesn’t mean she should stay. And for the second comment,
if it’s not the first time he’s cheated, well, let’s just say it’s
within Melanie’s power to make it the last.
There
are definitely married couples who’ve managed to forge ahead and get
past spousal infidelity. Yet, my readers know that this blog is based on
The Rules. As such, I won't name exceptions. I do my best to follow The Rules to the letter and try to analyze celeb relationships accordingly.
As
I said before, I’d be sad if they split. Maybe it will bring peace of
mind to Melanie, though. It’s been said that she has problems with
alcohol and pills. Worrying about Antonio cheating probably
doesn’t make her problems any easier. If all of this is true, hopefully
she can leave him and focus on recovery.
