Kourtney Kardashian Gun-Shy about Marriage -- Why Dating a Good Man Is Crucial!

Most of us know about Oprah's highly-publicized interview with the Kardashian's last week. While Kim's segment has received the most tabloid coverage, Oprah also had an opportunity to speak with Kourtney Kardashian, 32, about her relationship with Scott Disick, 27. Despite having dated Scott for over five years, Kourtney told Oprah that she's hesitant to marry him.

But, it didn't sound like their relationship was the cause for concern. Kourtney feels her mother's divorce has made her gun-shy about tying the knot. Even though she was 11 when it happened, Kourtney admitted that she's scared of marriage because her parent's bond broke. However, she might change her mind down the road and marry Scott for her children's sake.

I wondered about two things after reading this. First, is Scott clamoring to marry Kourtney? I've heard nothing that gives me the impression he is even remotely upset that they haven't wed. The only article I found was that while in Italy, Scott sounded open to the idea. But, I couldn't find any news of him on bended knee with a ring and Kourtney saying "no" because her parent's divorce is haunting her.

Admittedly, I have not watched every episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians. If I'm missing out and Scott really is anxious to propose, it'd be great if someone sent me the links. Otherwise, Kourtney's comments are preemptive. She wants people to think it's she who's on the fence. It seems the ugly truth is that Scott isn't all that interested.

[One of my readers told me that Scott was ready to propose, bought a ring, consulted with Kim, but then chickened out. Even knowing this, I still can't shake the feeling he's dying to marry her. Tell me if I'm wrong. Compare this to Joel Madden who nagged Nicole Richie non-stop about marrying him and she rejected him time and time again. Is it the same with Scott and Kourtney? Thank you to my reader for contacting me and letting me know!]

The second thing I thought was that of course she's not looking forward to marriage! Scott's not always nice to Kourtney. I've cringed at times when I hear how he speaks to her. Even Khloe has wished Kourtney would leave him. I know he goes through periods where he's nicer than usual. Yet, I'd be wary of "til death do us part" were I Kourtney, too. He makes me nervous, like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

Which brings me to my main point. There are a lot of people who are terrified of marriage. This fear occurs irrespective of whether someone is from a broken home. I have friends whose parents are still together but are nervous about marriage. This is simply because of the high divorce rates and the many unhappy married couples out there.

Knowing all of this, that's why it's so crucial for women to make the right decisions when it comes to dating. A woman should be concerned about finding a man who is very much in love with her. He should be of a mindset that he can't envision living without her. The best way to ensure that this happens is doing The Rules.

Some of my readers might be tired of how it seems like I'm saying all relationships are idyllic if a woman does The Rules. Using myself as an example, I can attest to the fact that they work. My parents divorced and yet their history in no way makes me fear my marital future.

Ok -- wait -- that's not entirely true. To me, the three scariest words are not "I love you," but "joint bank account." I'll probably need to book a consult with Ellen and Sherrie when it comes time for that discussion.

In any event, think of how much less nervous women would be about marriage were they dating a man who made them over the moon happy. A man who they knew -- in no uncertain terms -- loved them. When his love is so real she can almost reach out and touch it, the thought of being married to him makes her giddy. Trust me that when this happens, she'll impatiently tap her foot for the ring. Not anxious about whether there's a way out.

Take the poll or tell me what you think! Is Kourtney gun-shy about marriage because of how Scott treats her?

Until next time...
